Sorry for not having many letters.

Now got 7D - won't give it here in case others want to get it for themselves. Wouldn't mind any tips or help with 15 A - Lady facing a second stage of nipper's development (5) -o-a-.

Got 8D a short time ago - I think/hope it's right.It seems to coincide with your pointer.

If you get(or already have) 10d you should be able to get 15a using Chambers word wizard
For 10d : first 2 letters are abbrev for magistrate, next 2 are "a space in printing" giving something you write with

Sudokulover - thanks again. I've been soldiering on - 7,8 and 10 Down are solved, as is 15 A. I'm left with 13 Across (where I have 5 of the 6 letters)17 Across (where I have 4 of the 5 letters) and 20 A (where I have 3 of the 4 letters). I've omitted the details as you have probably got them all! I feel my brain's had a real workout today - it's beginning to grind to a halt.

13a : 4 letter word for "behind"(noun version) + 2 letter word for queen
17a : 4 letter word for a blemish with "N" (capital of Nottingham) inside giving a forest
20a I take it you are missing the 3rd letter - try Chambers word wizard and you should get it then.

Sudokulover - I'm finished, am now thinking of lying down in a darkened room to recover. I slogged on - your suggestions lead me to realise that words I had in mind weren't as ludicrous as I'd supposed.
