Could someone offer a clue to help answering this!

Cryptically what links a US president; a Wimbledon singles finalist; a great test match spin bowler; a US Civil War general; a song from Guys and Dolls; A Bond Girl and a Marx Brother?

Helen..I am still working on a couple of the elements but I think I have cracked it..the key appears to be part of the name of one of the Marx Brothers which is contained in the other names..I wont say more than that for fear of being lambasted by one of the self appointed Quiz patrol!

Helen,
I think the answer you are looking for is something to do with the number 19. Check birthdays, lyrics, wickets taken etc.

billy..I think your clue may be better than mine (albeit I have found a connection with all of them apart from the song from Guys and Dolls)all containing the same 3 letters
