Yes, emf, I too was curious about that. I happened to notice the name of a pub in the street this afternoon: Duke of York. Aha! That's the answer to that clue, I thought. Came back, saw the e and thought it couldn't be that after all.

Apologies to all for the typo in my first post - my appalling handwriting is to blame. (And I didn't really like the clue because I don't drink and hardly ever go in pubs, so expected to be stumped.)
