Hi jerry, i've debated long and hard with myself, wondering whether to ask you for another kickstart.
The top left hand corner is doing my head in. Could you, perchance, either supply the seven letters which come after the 'k' for one across or, give me a hint (a big one). Thanks, in anticipation.
ShottsJimmy.

Hi Jimmy from Shotts (just off the M8)
This a stinker of a word KWAKITUL is the language
of Amer-Indians from Vancouver Island.
I hope this gives a bit of a lever,
Best regards,
Jerry

Hi Jerry, I really appreciate it. It is obviously an anagram of 'Kuwait' and 'kl'. Simple eh!!!. Where the H-ll does the 'ul' come from?
Too late tonight, I will work on it tomorrow.
Sincere thanks.

Hi Jerry & ShottsJimmy

I hate to disagree with the solution provided (having been 'rescued' by the estimable Jerry on more than one occasion !) but whilst I agree with the reasoning provided for 1a, I reckon the answer is KWAKIUTL rather than KWAKITUL...

Good luck !
