Thanks to the alter ego Curmudgeon for a fun, and relatively gentle, outing, Nice to see wrinkled retainers getting another outing this weekend (or possibly not, depending on your point of view!). I may be one of the few members of my - antiquated - generation who is, or was, not a fan of the thematic material but it is sufficiently well known that I was not disadvantaged by my unfashionable distaste.

From the title and preamble I thought the quote might be one I've heard quite often. That lucky guess gave me a good start to, as you say Jack Aubrey, a fun and gentle outing.

A little too gentle perhaps? Surprised to find that the quotation isn't in my ODQ sixth edition.
