Claver is idle chat or gossip but that might be no help.(clavier?)

It is definitely 7 letters and your suggestion of Claver looks to be the basis of the answer. I will have to check my A . I suspect the saloon part is CAR.

where does the other "?" go in the pattern "CA?I??".
Caviler was another word that i considered (i too thought Car for saloon).
