Gold cloth piece is not silver - this might be either (5) ??R??

The first one is a 'subtractive anagram' - one of those where you remove a word from a longer phrase.'Badly' indicates an anagram. The answer is a very familiar piece (well, plural) of computer equipment..

I got my answer to 17 A from the crossers. It's a fancy cloth, begins with one of the usual words for 'gold' and ... that's all I did!
