20. Duck with rook wrapped in sliced fruit (7)

Answer seems to be COCONUT...

Can someone please explain why? Is a nut a fruit? Duck = 0?

O (duck) + CON (rook, as a verb) both in CUT (sliced).
Apparently the coconut can be considered a fruit.

I accept nut is a fruit. I knew Duck =0 (cricket)
But the rook=con... A bit too American English for me,
then again the FT is not really a British paper is it.
So what do you think - have you solved the clue, i.e. answered correctly if the word you've written is correct but you can't explain the reasoning, hmmm?
