Was thinking of Daphne Du Maurier's - My cousin Rachel; but, this is only six letters. Any other suggestions or clues.

Hi PB - in Daphne du Maurier's 'Rebecca' she is shot by Maxim de Winter (her husband). Not sure if that is a clear enough link to your clue?
