Can anyone please help with these 2 clues:-

13ac: Mimic from Spain - he loses nerve taking off king (6 letters, got none)

9dn: 'Not a gentleman' describing socialist's reputation (6)
Possibly CR??O?

One of these clues may contain an extra word!

Hi you.

Looks like elide = 'ide'/fish after the final letters of 'the tail'.

Bit of a stinker this one, isn't it. A mostly complete grid and I've no idea where it's going.

These two I think I can guess, but can't see the wordplay:

"Bird down promptly in the past"; B??E??? (2 words)

"Low American not very excitable chasing gold"; ?R?E??

Is the ONE SORTED, YUM thing misleading? I'm sure I need letters that aren't there.

Hi Bertie.

Answer for "Bird ... " ends with an alternative spelling for 'tite' (an old word meaning 'promptly').

Hi again Bertie.

"Low ... " ... 'or'/gold, n(ot), 'ery'/excitable.

Thanks JimC, that both confirms and explains my potential answers. I don't think I'll be taking home the champagne this week, all the same :/
