Oh goody! The first Speccie puzzle to refer us to Brewer since I acquired the tome earlier this year. I'll look forward to it when I get back home later.

Will37, you might not need to use your Brewer's....(well, maybe just for confirmation).

I hope Brewer's 18th will help me, if necessary, as that is the only edition I own

Actually, Malone, there were a couple which I hadn't encountered before and Brewer's was useful for checking as only 3 of the unclueds appear in the BRB.

jazzgirl,

Back in pre-Covid days, if I needed to consult Brewer's I'd pop to my local library - only a 10-minute walk away. During lockdown that wasn't possible so I emailed my county library and asked whether the book is available as an online resource. Turns out it is and they told me how to access it, as well as a great deal of other reference material.

I was unaware it is online. Hopefully my 2009 edition may help if needed. I am doing Ok so far with nearly all the clued entries solved. I have an inkling for the unclued :)

Will37, interested in the online reference material you mention, could you explain further?

In July 2020 I emailed my county library (Hertfordshire) asking about online access to Brewer's and got a reply saying: "I can confirm that this title is available on Credo Reference which forms part of our Online Reference Library", and giving me a link to follow; I just use my libarary card number to sign in. I imagine that other UK counties have something similar - and perhaps further afield as Credo Reference is a US company with its HQ in Boston MA.

This was tough for me in places, but enjoyable. 18 was helpful in solving other unclued lights.
