Hi Paul.

55a might be sneer (as in 'taunt' etc.). The final letters (i.e. 'Eastenders'?) of 'weekdays on satellite, cable and free-to-air' = 'sneer'.

I forgot to point out above that 'to take a dig at' ≅ taunt ≅ sneer.

I make this "Clear". 50d is Sacha . Band S (alvation) A (rmy) 3rd in charts CHA. Therefore 55A begins with C. Free to air=Clear

thanks all.
I got SACHA but must admit only because it is a Russian name.
which leaves c?e?r, CLEAR or CHEER

Think we were both wrong. Band = Sash, third in charts is A
sash + a = SASHA, so we re at s?e?r, so SNEER is probably right.

This is fascinating as both answers fit the logic of the questions, so I cant wait to see what the official answer is! I am led by the "Russian boy" being Sacha rather than Sasha, so am now leaning towards Cheer
