Cross, military decoration - multiply the C, initially, by five, to get D (Roman numerals).

...C,100, becomes D, 500.

I'm stuck on the last two & any help would be gratefully received.

38D - Run over India & China is sensible (10)
?E?I?I?A?E
&
48D - Tail of sea bird moving around (5)
A?T?R

I'm reasonably happy with the letters I've put in, but am as usual prepared to accept that i may be deluding myself.

I'm going to be elsewhere for a bit, so gratitude won't be expressed immediately.

Thanks in advance.

HotelWhisky7,

Thanks for both your responses.

To be honest, I can't for the life of me see that "Legitimate" means "sensible" in any meaning of either word, but your parsing is convincing.

Apologies for the belatedness of the gratitude.

You’re welcome.

Legitimate/sensible is in Chambers under definition 2.

I can’t recommend the App, plus Bradford’s in Kindle, highly enough…
