Aberdeen, port.

A - in clue
Bern - capital of Switzerland (can have an E at the end)
Dee, river
Divide by - Dee goes inside Bern, so Berdeen
A berdeen/ Aberdeen

17 across: Run into dog's dinner Here? (5)
Answer is incur (run into), But why the rest.

9 across: Stiff, traditional drawers use this to avoid unsightly lines (3,6)
The answer is set (stiff) square (traditional) but why the rest? Would be grateful for any help. Roger

After the dog has eaten its dinner, it would be IN CUR
A set square is used by draughtsmen to do accurate drawing.

Rogerjw, the dog's dinner is In the Cur, inside the dog!

9 A set square would give razor sharp, nice lines - not unsightly ones, and drawers/artists would prefer those.(That's a bit feeble, but it's all I can see.)

Thank you both for your help, but it does make me think how very poor the two clues are! Roger

Glad we could help. I quite liked the Incur clue, the other was a bit poor.

I agree, malone - INCUR raised a smile.
