"Cardinal accepted two rings for one in crescent" = 'new moon'.
I'm thinking there must be a word meaning cardinal which, when supplemented by OO gives New Moon. Or else I'm on totally the wrong track. My breath is baited...

Many thanks

Cardinal accepted two rings for one in crescent.
There is an apparently well known Cardinal Newman, replace the a with two "o"s.

Thanks Trevor. Unfortunately, Cardinal Newman and I have never been introduced.
