clue 2 might be Postern (job)post,(Egyptian)e,(Navy)Royal Navy.
Tho I think it would be more likely to be found in a Castle than a House.

I think the second half of clue 3 could be Knight - Jac(K) finally. At end of day - night. But I can't get any further than that.

Carpet Knight: a knight who spends his time in luxury and idleness (knighted on the carpet at court rather than on the field of battle)
It all fits except I cant find any reference to something found in a House.

Thanks MD and Trevor, between you I think you have it. Carpet Knight, and Carpet being the part connected with the house. Good 'un x x

hi gingerhendry, me again.
As both Postern and Carpet Knight are found in Castle's and an Englishman's Home is is Castle, I would tend to think they are correct.?????
