Hi,
Can anyone help please!
22d SHAIRN ? (SN=tin but why boxes 'hair'?)
26a CHAMIO? (Looks like something to do with 'champion' (Queen)?
Thanks for any help.

Cath

Sorry to be pedantic but can you confirm which letters you are confident about, i.e. are part of other answers?

If it helps a HAIR space is a typesetting term for a very narrow space.

SN = tin and SHAIRN is indeed soil(of the excrement kind!)

Hello Cath,
This week's Mephisto is a real stinker. I too put in
CHARIOT more or less by default; R could be queen,so could AR (Anne Regina); IO is a cry of joy; RIO with CHAT around makes CHARIOT, but does a chat constitute a visit or a ride?
Sometimes there are no posts on the Mephisto, this
is the third separate one this week!
Very best regards to you,
Jerry

Hi Jim,
How is an ignorant old git like me supposed to know
that? The Americans have abused our tongue since
the seventeenth century so what's new there.
