Could someone please explain:
why 3d (liard) is grey?
what 12d (pipe-cleaner) has to do with good gym clubs, and
where in 20d (hurried) is the man on the chariot?

Hi Franny

Not familiar with the crossword or the full clues but presumably 'the man on the chariot' is Hur as in Ben Hur.

Re 3d if you google 'liard grey' it appears to be a description of a dark shade of grey.
