17a Vet almost finished herd. Answer is drove but can't see why. Drove would be herded not herd and can't see any connection to a vet as in animals or an ex military man.

16d Try the Spanish stores without children? It's true. Ans is gospel. I can get go and el but where does sp come in the answer and how does children fit in?

GO is try, as you have
SP - sine prole - is "without children" (genealogical abbreviation)
and you have the EL
