I haven't noticed these 2 clues being posted so I may be a little dim this week!

How one might have called Caligula's horse? (4)

Maybe I should have added a ? there, but Caligula was quite mad and besotted with his horse, even making him a Priest and a Senator, so was thinking along the lines of a title?

and the horse (Incitatus) had 18 servants and as Mamya said caligula was going to make him a consul. Also, the male parent of a quadraped, especially a horse is known as a Sire

Thanks both for your replies. Hmm - any horse could be a sire, well any stallion I suppose, and senator, even consul, wasn't regarded as royalty, so if sire is correct, and I can't see any alternative right enough, it's not a very convincing clue.

Thank you all for the discussion and explanations.
Jim, if you are not familiar with the RTE Guide crossword, my advice would be - DON"T become acquainted. It is a truly masochistic tendency that makes me try it, but it is the worst excuse for a crossword I have ever seen. I don't equate crosswords with puzzles. The RTE Guide is a mixture of crossword and puzzle. The clues can be squiggly lines, circles, arrows etc. It has had anagrams misspelt, anagrams with letters missing. I want to know how much Rosebud gets paid for this rubbish.
