Hi BELLING I am not yet able to provide any help for the two clues provided by BELLING Also I too am now puzzled by the answer \"Fireguard\" I can see no cryptic connection ?? maybe FirePLACE would be better ? Any further observations please

Hi MD - thanks for that and yes I agree fireplace does sound better but at least with guard on the end it denotes the word security in the clue.
