Am more than halfway, but two long answers are slowing me down.
6D. Grid referernce to be seen here? (11, two words) -i--o----g-
24 a. Smiling rogue out of uniform, ie unlikely to be giveb legal protection (13, three words)
in-re--o-e--m.
Any pointers? Thanks

24ac is a latin phrase. It is an anagram of smilingrogueie, but without u - uniform

AJT - have now got the Latin answer, thanks for steering me. Still wish Mephisto would give the word lengths.
