Thanks all, my first E is from 5 down for which I have 'FILTERED'. Anagram of 'relief' (sentiment) and 'd' (deceived) and 't' (tot). What do you have?

Can somebody please explain what STRIKERS has to do with footpads and the bard?

Thanks again.

5d is not filtered - it is falsetto - false = deceiving, and anagram of tot.

strikers are those on the picket line

OK, I understand FALSETTO, but STRIKERS still confuses me... I get the reference to a picket line, but what about the rest of the clue: "More than one 5 across (footpad), according to the bard..."

Can someone please put me out of my misery?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Do you not have a Chambers? Striker is given as a footpad, according to Shakespeare
