with the first one, your a must be wrong. The answer is pewit - the word is contained backwards in the phrase

26a Spain - the old hurricane centre(3).

I know eye is the centre of a storm but I put ESA as that is an old hurricane monitoring station. I put that because ES is spain. Please can you explain eye.
