Still slogging away with the so-called "straightforward" clues, but this is the longest I have persisted with the Spectator. There's still plenty of blank space on my grid. If somebody could give me hints for 10 down and 40 across, I may be able to get going again. As for attempting the unclued lights, I'm totally in the dark!

10d is an anagram
40a is also anangram (wiltshires minus L)
For the unclued lights think alphabetical - when filling them in most of them have very few alternatives, but when there is a choice think A to Z!

Hi Sudokulover. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to finish this one even if it kills me.

How do you get this crossword? The current one does not seem to be online. Does everyone subscribe?

Thanks JimC. Took a bit of working out on how to print it out at a reasonable size, but I got there in the end. Is that link going to work every week?

Hi again Clevertask.

I believe the link will work every time (you could bookmark it, if you want, for future use).

Thank you Jim C. The easiest aspect of this crossword was the downloading and printing. I'm still struggling with the "straightforward" clues, never mind the unclued lights.
I'm resigned to being the dunce of the class. It's wine o'clock here anyway, and I've given up on the Spectator for another night. Cheers,
Kookaburra.
