That'll be Gretna as in Gretna Green where folks go to get wed.

Yes, but why? What are the cryptic elements? Where does "Scots weep with English going north" fit in?

Hi Tony.

'greet' in Scots means 'weep'; take away 'E'nglish and append 'n'orth and 'a'lliance to give Gretna.
