Not too tough, quite enjoyed it but 24 caused my eyebrow to arch:

24 Fleet assembly point in Gaul is described by Racine (5)

...which is a containment bookended by two not fully explicit descriptions. Is this fair game? Looked a tad clunky to me, hey-ho.

I thought that as well and I studied the Racine work for A-Level many, many moons ago.

Agreed on all counts.
Cannot parse 25d adequately...am I missing something?

Specsaver, I think - but I'm sure others will correct me if I am wrong - that the second word can describe a depraved person., so it is a double meaning for the second part of the answer.

Oddly, clue to 24 seems to have appeared before – in TLS crossword 711 of 21 September 2007 (according to crosswordgiant). A similar clue leading to the same answer was used in TLS 837 of 18 June 2010. Unfortunately, the setter’s name is not given in either case but I presume that Smurf was on the TLS panel back then.

Thank you.

I figured out 42a just after I posted, but I have some fixing to do now that you have given me 30d
