Joe. In my view this really is poor. Sure you can access responses from this site, but if, as you have said, it is "your kid's school assignment" you are just using this as a crib sheet. What would your kid achieve by just copying out other brains' output: and in my view shame on those who contribute to this blatant cheating.

Good morning Joe,

I will leave to make a suitable rejoinder to Xfan's comments but, like my fellow contributors who have done the majority of the work, I am pleased to be of assistance...

4. MATCHMAKER [Thornton Wilder's retitled farce on which Hello Dolly was based].

18. SHEPHERD [David whose iconic painting of a head-on elephant will undoubtedly spring to mind].

I may well be back later but, judging by the rumbling coming from my nether regions, I had better get some breakfast first.

Regards to you all,

Caravaggio

@Xfan.

I'd just like to say that I don't feel at all shamed at contributing.

Help was asked for and help was given, without reserve, as with most other requests on this site. Seems fair.

I certainly learned from seeing some of the given answers. Maybe Joe's kid will also?

Best Wishes.
JimC.

OK, maybe I was too blunt: but this was not "show me the way", but just "give me the answers". When a poster presents an apparently complete list of unrelated clues, particularly on behalf of a child, whilst their honesty is to be admired, and there are admittedly clues to be solved, I wonder if this is actually asking for help or just a means to acquire some undeserved credit.

2. ARCHERS? It fits the bill but I am dubious as to whether you could refer to 'archer' as being an occupation...

Continuing thanks for help!! Very grateful Only ones need now are:

6. Popular duo of late (10)
14. Takes control, then diverts (8)
16. A free traveller (8)
19. Specialists in Amsterdam (3, 6)

"Puzzled" very kindly suggested 'Carpenters' for (6) and 'Outrider' for (16). Could you explain to a dim guy like me? I thought Richard C is still alive etc..

Also, can someone please tell me the significance of the number '2' in the clue "Coming between 2 spouses". Why not "two".

Regards to all! Joe

Hi Joe,

19. GEM BUYERS? I would have preferred 'dealers' or 'traders' but we're restricted to six letters and 'specialists' is a plural form.
