A perfect day for a perfect two pinta puzzle: MENDEL went in (as a guess) as the clock struck lunchtime`s end. A couple of doddles to get started then a feast of wizard clue-ing from Paul before the inevitable last couple of walnuts (of which MENDEL was one and OVID another). Thanks Paul, you excelled today!

Certainly did - a very challenging, enjoyable puzzle from Paul.

Although not my favourite compiler I do recognise his skill and 'humour' it's just that I sometimes struggle to get on his 'wavelength'.

To use the term 'Pulse Tester' as the definition in a clue leading to (Gregor) Mendel, the 'father' of genetics was, I thought, absolutely brilliant.
