I just got the current version (11th) from Amazon for £16.09 and used it for the first time .. it made things SO much easier than being without !!

stuck on 32 across. Help

How I saw it was:
Figured = NUMBERED, losing election ultimately (i.e. the 'N' of election), gives you UMBERED (coloured brown).

Thanks for all your help, Jerry, your clue to 2A got me going and I have finished. I did, however, have to visit my apartment to collect Chambers without which I could not have finished it!!!

Hope it is not too late in the week for you to read this. Reading your replies I see that JimC managed to buy the 11th Edition of Chambers Dictionary for £16.09 but the Amazon price I am looking at is £20 with free UK delivery (to friends who are coming over on May 1st). Do you know what link etc he would have used to find that price??

I don't know where Jim bought his from,but British
Book Sellers were doing them for c£15-£16.

If you search on the 13 digit ISBN (978-0550102898) on the Amazon website you will see the version that I bought - the one without thumb tabs. It's in stock and selling there today for £16.25 with free UK delivery.

Of course, there may be outlets where it is cheaper; I just went for speed & convenience.
