I am also stuck for 6D and 9A. I think 13A is "rocket". Not sure about 11A .... it could be airman, batman or skyman!

Just cracked it. 9A is "equate", 6D is "equivocal" and 11A is "airman".

This is very helpful chaps.

Rocket is a salad plant and a rocket is a firework - hence spectacular.

I've got winger too. Not sure why!

8d is REINSTATE !!! rein - state!

26a; extremely useful footballer.
-Left wing and right wing are the two wingers who play on the extreme left and right respectively, and are called the wingers. David Beckham is one.

Hi Clearwater and other contributors,

WINGER had me baffled too; however, on another site, I found an explanation that 'winger' was London slang [it wasn't suggested that it was Cockney slang] for something that was extremely useful - like a gadget.

I spent some time looking at various on-line slang dictionaries but I regret that I cannot confirm that explanation...

Regards,

Caravaggio
