Marteline? - which is a hammer used by sculptors.

Not sure of the wordplay - m for leader of militia and line for guidance possibly. Not sure of the rest though.

Martello is hammer in Italian and MARTELLOS are Martello Towers - military fortifications.

Not sure if that is any help whatsoever as I cannot work out the clue.

Did anyone know ARTEL is a Russian word for workers' guild? I didn't. I just googled it, trying to work out the WHY of the answer. Hey presto!

So it is M + ARTEL + LED.
