All complete except the unclued trio.

I have -HE-E- and A-R-S- and -I-G, but correct answer might not be in that order.

Can someone kindly give me a hint?

39a/29d/26d go together in that order. 14d/12d go together in that order. A hint for 40 across please.

40 A is a word new to me. It's a shortened version of an eight-letter word meaning 'cheers', 'salut' etc.
