35a. Ferry boat about to come into base (6). I have -e-c-t.
And 37d. Suddenly found work picked up, having secured trade with Japan at last (6,4). I have -t-u-k,-p-n. STRUCK UPON works for 'suddenly found' and 'n' for Japan at last, but I don't get the rest. Any help please?

I think you'll find OPUS is a better definition of work in this instance.
