anyone got any ideas, 5 letters, WA?E? clue= Diamond's Quality

Stuck on the same clue!

Could be carat but that would make your W wrong

Belay my last post...! also the e would be wrong !

Dont think it is carat as that would not fit. The first letter "W" comes from the clue "moo" i.e. "low" as in cattle lowing!

Thanks guys, as ever when you get the answer it all seems very simple. I will be getting abuse for being stupid from some of the less friendly contributors if I am not careful! Can't quite understand why supposedly intelligent people want to be so spiteful, but hey it's a funny old world!

Although I'd heard the saying "a diamond of the first water" I hadn't realised it was a proper definition until I read this query and looked up the answer before posting to the list.
You only learn this stuff by doing loads of crosswords and this forum is an amazing way to increase your knowledge.
