Good morning fellow "spectators"! Phew! That was a hard slog - the bottom right hand corner had me stumped for a while!

Hello Sudokulover - I was wondering where you'd got to. Yes, a lot of it was quite familiar, of course - plus the 26ac. I'm still pondering the central letter in 17ac, though. I lean towards "s", but I can't really see why.

How does the "subject to be beheaded" in 6d work? I can't see which letter could go in front(of a word for authorise) to give this meaning?

I echo your query re 6d Xwordman - can only see R,T or V as first letters and none make sense to me.

Also require further eplanation for the following...
41d - if Le Roi is the quatorze is this "o(f) sun"
46A - don't get the tenor connection

Thanks
