Your first option doesn't really work with the theme word, the second does...

What about fool ?

If you Google the theme word+ Foot, you'll see it's a recognised term, word.

Hi ciderdotndave, if you're referring to this week's puzzle, which there isn't a thread for yet, it's an anagram using G for German + the usual single letter abbreviation at the end.
Should you be referring to last week's puzzle if you give the clue I'll try to help as I no longer have it.
