I am still struggling to understand two clues from last week's puzzle.

30 ac Turn off gas having kicked bottle in the air(3,2)
I have D_Y _P. Is it dry up, and if so, why?

27ac Tissue covering front of electric plug and top of shaft (7)
I have P_T_E_D. I know a pithead is at the top of a shaft, but I can't understand the first part of the clue.

I would be very glad of some help.

pith is tissue - e if first letter of electric, and ad is a plug.

the second one
Tissue = Pith
Covering front of Electric =E
Plug = Ad

If you kick the bottle you are Dry
In the air = Up

..but I am still thinking about the Turn off Gas bit !!

Thank you so much, AJT and chrisg. I should have thought of the other meaning of plug. Maybe dry up means stop speaking, turn off gas. Now I can look at today's puzzle.

turn off gas ...stop speaking...dry up..makes sense to me !
