cant work out 18 down

Neither can we without a clue !

Checking online. The only daily mail crossword they give, is todays Cryptic (which has no 18d). 18a, is EWE R.
Please try to give: Clue, Number of letters, which letters you already have (W--CH), and let us know if you want answer or a hint.

It helps if we have the clue to start with.

i got bye byes but cannot explain how or why this is the answer - any ideas?
