Don't be daunted by the long preamble - it's quite an easy one today

Greetings AJT. It's almost 6pm here and I'm about to download the Spectator crossword. Don't like my chances.

Hi Kookaburra. It really is quite an easy one - I started about 6.30 am, and finished (with coffee breaks) at 8.30 am. Forget about the preamble until later. I was greatly helped around the perimeter by Bradford's crossword solver's dictionary. Enjoy it!

Hi AJT
I was thinking about consulting Bradford. Are the perimeter items in one group in Bradford?
Also could you confirm that 8d is an anagram & 30a has Rani (Queen) in it.
thanks.

Hello Rosie - the answer is no to each. All of the words in the perimeter are under one heading in Bradford's.

oh, and by the way, with Bradford's you needn't worry about the anagram of the unchecked letters in the perimeter

Thanks.

Rather stupidly I missed the 'alphabetical order'
part in the preamble, but all clear now.

3D is one of the clues with a cryptic indication omitted. It is an anagram with 1 letter left out & dog is the definition.
