This clue structure is becoming rather tedious in RT these days as it appears every week. "Regularly" means every other letter so you get alternate letters of "at cherry" giving you ACER.

Hi everybody

Completed except for 3d 'Endorses a loud outfit before silent start'. Is this AFFIRMS (?F?I?M?assuming the second letter 'F' is correct - and if so, why??

thanks, Deekay

An outfit is A FIRM but like you didnt quite get the reference to "loud" and I presumed the reference to a silent start if the extra F that appears.

Like John, I did say some of the clues were tenuous

Hi.

I believe 'f' stands for 'forte', used in music to mean loud.

But surely the word "start" usually means the S goes at the beginning. Would it not have been better to say "silent end"

Hi Paul
I think "silent start" just means - start of the word silent (s)- almost a red herring. the setter could have used any word that STARTED with an "s".
