Thank you, Ixion - I didn't look n Collins , I should have done, I suppose, that is what they used to give as the prize. Thank you - I suppose he makes them.

AJT, 3d was a new one on me too. Unfortunately I got H?R?E and become fixated with horses! Once I spotted the anagram it slotted in immediately - I googled to verify the definition and spent a little time reading up on it, because I couldn't quite believe it! I really struggled with this puzzle, on the plus side it led me to this website! :-)

Any hints for 7d 18a and 22d would help me sleep.Tx

7d - forget the answer(back from the pub)but a gown

The gown was peignoir.
