22 Down Smear mostly surrounding King's Head (5) s--ll. (Am thinking 'shell' but don't get the reasoning).

The first is ETUIS. Plot = site, backwards, including u

S k ull

...and the second is SKULL. Smear - sully, mostly - sull, surrounding k - king's head

second one is skull (head)....smear mostly sull(y) around Kings (K)

Thanks,both of you. I'm annoyed about 'etuis' as 'etui' has appeared in crosswords loads of times.
