Have finished it, but couldn't parse one of the clues.
26 Across:- "In revolution he died a certain western hero"
The answer would appear to be BOONE, and although
Daniel Boone was involved in a revolution, he died
naturally and not as a result of fighting, so where does
"died" come into the picture?

"Ob" is the abbreviation for the Latin word "obit" meaning "died".

I was going to say that "ob" is short for "obit" and used for "died", but I haven't found any online evidence (and, with a cat on lap, can't check dictionaries!)
So it would be OB revolutionary, then ONE
