Thanks Sammy. This was the only word I found that fitted but for the life of me I can't see how it fits with the clue. Any enlightenment most welcome.

Bottome drawer = Trousseau...Leader of the Tories = T followed by Rosseau a philosopher who was rather naive in his beliefs

Leader of T(ories), Painter ROUSSEAU.
Trousseau- Traditional collection of garments for bride kept in her bottom drawer.
