Buggering girl hard (5)
Has to be Irish - Iris h.
Can't understand the buggering/Irish connection.
Any thoughts anyone?

I think this was mentioned here (on this site) last week - and no-one came up with any decent reasoning for how the clue works! It must be Irish, but why is still a mystery!

Collins Dictionary gives a meaning of "Irish", as "ludicrous" or "illogical".
But that's probably no help!
