Interesting. I heard of 'tec' as an abbreviation for 'detective' and 'TEC' is probably an acronym for lots of things but I didn't hear of 'tec' as slang for 'busy'. I wonder what subculture it comes from?

Busy is a slang expression for the police most commonly used in the northwest e.g. Liverpool.

Thanks Chris.

'busy' ≈ 'detective' ≈ 'tec'.

As you may have guessed, I'm not from NW England.

So many slang words for 'police' seem to exist! I wonder if 'police' holds the record for number of slang terms.
