Have made progress with the grid.
But need help with:

The definition may have a letter added and jumbled.
The answer may not fill the available space.

1a. Rasta narcotic not fashionable (5)
2. Men nearly ready to play with differently coloured horns (7)

Have about half of extra letters. Do the last 11 letters spell YES?

1 There's an extra letter/jumble. Think of the usual 'narcotic not fashionable' (fashionable = ??)
2 Straight clue, answer is a word meaning 'with horns', but I'd never seen it as that before!

3 YES, yes!

it's the obvious narcotic, with A as extra letter from definition, and there's an xtra letter, not clued, to go as 5th letter in entry as per the instruction.

And yes to your "YES" !

I often feel my hints are on the miserly side!

I had 2d but rejected it at first.

Not sure yet what the fifth letter in 1a and first letter in 43a.

It took me a while to figure out that found in 18a is used as an anagram indicator.

I now have the message but not sure how to apply it.
Also looking for two other contributors.

The message and Muraria's hint should help apply part of the message. The contributors aren't very well hidden!

'Found' is a truly awful anagram indicator !

(first letter in 43a is S)

... as is 'waste' in 8d !
