I'm just doing saturday's giant crossowrd.

The clue to 38 across is "making clear again I lost it (5)",

I'm guessing "overt" from the making clear part but if that is correct then I don't understand the rest of the clue. Am I just being stupid here, it is very early and I've not had a coffee so could somebody enlighten me please? It would be much appreciated.
