I need help with the parsing please, so explanation as to how you arrived at the answer would be appreciated.
A) Endeavouring to thrust one's point home? (7) L*N*I**. Lunging? Longing? The word "endeavouring" is confusing me.

B) No college celebration meal? (6) R(possibly B) ***U*. I guessed barium to start with, Bar = (No) and Umi(st) Manchester University.

Now I'm thinking "ragout" (rag and out) but I wouldn't call ragout a meal???

These two clues are intersecting. The last letter of A is the third letter of B.

Re A. A lair is a home too! Now I'm even more confused.

Thank you xwordfan but I still doubt if it's ragout, though you might be correct. Vegetarian dish would be a more appropriate clue.

Chambers Dictionary has "ragout"- a highly seasoned stew of meat and vegetables.
Sounds like a meal to me.

If one attempts to get one's point over( home) then lunging fits better
